Introduction
Part 1 of this report describes, in Sections 2 and 3, respectively, the scope of the investigations and the findings in relation to cast-in-situ high-rise construction. Information on the form of construction of six licensed systems examined by BRE is given in Appendix A. The findings and conclusions have been based on detailed information contained in Appendix B, which describes the field investigations carried out by BRE, and on more general information, in Appendix C which comprises summaries of reports of investigations made by building owners and their consultants. The broad implications of these findings are considered in Section 3, and conclusions are drawn in Section 4. Six case studies which are related to structural and durability problems together with the solutions adopted by the local authorities, are given in Appendix D.
Part 2 of this report gives guidance on the appraisal of durability of cast-in-situ dwellings. To enable the days when calcium chloride is most likely to have been added to be identified. A list of 'high-risk' days between January 1957 and December 1972 for twelve UK sites has been compiled in Appendix A. Methods of non-destructive testing are discussed fully elsewhere4, whilst Appendices B and C describe chemical methods of concrete analysis.
