Introduction
This practical guidance document has been produced to help client organisations embarking on a Value Management (VM) exercise to plan and run a VM workshop. It will also be useful to any members of the project team who have been asked to participate in a VM exercise for the first time, providing an understanding of the facilitator's approach. It is not a handbook or training manual for VM facilitators.
The workshop is probably the most important aspect of VM but experience shows that many people still think of the workshop as being little more than another project meeting; it is not! The guidance provides information on the key workshop processes and issues. It provides practical, detailed information on setting up, running and evaluating a workshop, and examining some of the techniques that can be adopted by the VM facilitator.
Other guides that accompany this one are:
Value from construction: getting started in Value Management;
Value for social housing: Concise guidance for registered social landlords, their consultants and contractors;
The F.A.S.T. approach: function analysis and diagramming techniques.
