Preface

This guide has drawn on work from around the world, including the UK, to produce an up-to-date guide to mound filters. As this topic is still being researched, it is expected that there will be a revision of this guide in the future. The design guidance contained within the guide covers the most common types of mound filters that are likely to be employed in the UK in the near future.

Mound filters dealing with domestic wastewater after primary treatment (settlement), and after secondary treatment (aerobic or anaerobic biological treatment), are described. The design guidance in this guide may be called up in future revisions of Building Regulations (Part H2 of The Building Regulations for England and Wales, Part M of The Technical Standards for compliance with the Building Standards (Scotland) Regulations, and The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland)).
