INTRODUCTION
Following a description of the structural form of Ayrshire County Council (Lindsay) and Whitson-Fairhurst houses; this part of the report gives a summary of the findings of the investigations described in Part 2. The report then outlines the defects and deterioration of reinforced concrete components that may be found on inspection and the circumstances under which they may occur.
The main theme is a discussion of the aims of various types of inspection which may be performed and the nature of the conclusions which may be drawn from the results. It is followed by a broad assessment of what may be involved in repair and remedial work.
This part of the report is not a comprehensive specification for inspection and repair but is a distillation of experience gained from the BRE investigations and should be read in conjunction with Part 2.
Local experience, both of condition and construction type, may differ from that seen by BRE and as a result other procedures may be more appropriate to the local circumstances.
