This 3-A Sanitary Standard applies to the sanitary aspects of fittings used on processing equipment and pipelines which hold or convey products. The fitting begins at the equipment or pipeline connection and ends at and may include the gasket, O-ring, or seals.
Standards for fittings for fabricated hose assemblies are found in 3-A Sanitary Standard for Hose Assemblies, 62-.
3-A Symbol authorization shall not be granted to a fitting used on a fabricated hose assembly.
This standard does not apply to:
Recessed ferrules, which are attached to a pipeline or equipment by means of expansion or soldering.
Recessless or rolled-on fittings.
Clamps used to secure fittings.
To conform to this 3-A Sanitary Standard, fittings shall conform to the following criteria for design, materials of construction, fabrication techniques and installation, as applicable, and the current revisions or editions of all referenced documents cited herein.
