These guide specifications are intended for the repair and strengthening of reinforced and pre-stressed highway bridge structures using externally bonded fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite systems. The document supplement the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, LRFDUS-6, in that expands on the use of the LRFDUS-6 standards for bridges made of a specific material.
Users of LRFDUS-6 who don't use that particular material have no need for FRPS-1. However, the reverse is not the case; because of numerous cross-references, FRPS-1 is not particular useful to people who do not also have LRFDUS-6.
