AEIC CS4-18 applies to impregnated paper insulated, metal-sheathed low and medium pressure self-contained liquid filled (SCLF) type cables for use in the transmission of electrical energy. It describes the various choices that an engineer must consider when specifying such cables designed for operation under liquid pressure.

The purpose of these specifications is to insure the furnishing of cable of high quality. The tests herein apply only to cable with one or more insulating liquid channels, with single lead sheath, with double lead sheath, reinforced lead sheath, aluminum sheath, or with a jacket over the sheath.
