It is the purpose of this standard to establish functional design requirements of safety related structures, systems and components to provide a degree of assurance that boiling water reactor plants will be designed and constructed so that they can be operated without undue risk to the health and safety of the public. It is intended that this objective be accomplished in this standard by defining existing practices which are consistent with the licensing requirements of the NRC and with appropriate industry codes.
