API Spec 6FB establishes procedures for testing and evaluating the pressure-containing performance of API end connectors when exposed to fire. Valves, wellhead seals, or other related equipment are not included in the scope of this document.
The performance requirements of this standard establish standard qualification criteria for all sizes and pressure ratings of end connectors.
The procedures are presented in two parts: Part I represents conditions in an onshore or open offshore location and Part II represents conditions in an offshore platform well bay.
Background information on fire resistance of API end connections is contained in API Bulletin 6F1. Further background on fire-resistance improvements of API flanges is contained in API Bulletin 6F2.
This standard includes, but is not limited to, API 6A and API 6D end connectors.
