Purpose

This document provides Flight Simulation Training Device (FSTD) operators, FSTD manufacturers, airplane manufacturers or other sources of approved data1 and vendors of airplane equipment, with a standard describing the scope and content of data required to build, test, and qualify FSTDs of adequate fidelity to meet flight crew training requirements.

Moreover, these data should allow the production of documentation to support the approval of the FSTD by the operator and the appropriate Regulatory Authority.

It should be emphasized, however, that this document does not represent an exclusive means of fulfilling data requirements for an FSTD. Nor does it imply that any extra tests specified herein beyond qualification requirements should form part of current or future qualification requirements.

To avoid possible ambiguity, the data requirements for jet-powered airplanes and propeller-powered airplanes are defined fully under separate sections within the relevant sections. It should be noted that within each section of this document, data are specified for a broad range of airplane types and certain items are not applicable to all airplanes.

Maintenance functions are included insofar as they are accessible from the cockpit and used by the flight crew.
