Objective

The objective of this document is to provide a system for the effective control of the environment for avionic equipment. This includes:

A. BASIC DESIGN STANDARDS for avionic equipment and its installation to assure suitable thermal interfaces (Chapter 2).

B. DESIGN CRITERIA AND GUIDANCE TO provide further details concerning the equipment and installations (Chapter 3).

C. COOLING APPRAISAL to provide data which should be utilized by users or equipment and aircraft manufacturers to confirm the equipment thermal design and to show compatibility with aircraft environment (Chapter 4).

Inherent in this objective is the principle that failure of the LRU resulting from the mechanical, electrical and environmental interfaces encountered on the aircraft can be minimized and that aircraft providing the interfaces as stated herein should not be held responsible for failures of this nature.
