Purpose of this Characteristic
This document describes an Air Traffic Control Radar Beacon System/Mode Select (ATCRBS/Mode S) airborne transponder specifically designed for installation in commercial transport type aircraft. The intent of this document is to provide general and specific design guidance for the development and installation of a transponder system primarily for airline use. As such, this guidance will describe the desired operational capabilities and the standards necessary to achieve interchangeability.
