Purpose: This document details the design requirements of an avionic function, designated the Automatic Dependent Surveillance Function (ADSF). It sets minimum hardware and software requirements for reliable operation of the ADSF as an Open System Interconnect (OSI) end system. It describes the ADSF to ground-based ADS application end-to-end operation. Further, it includes a brief overview of the entire Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS) system in order to aid the reader in understanding the ADS environment.
The ADS system is designed to provide flight position and other optional information data in the form of ADS reports to requesting ground-based end system applications (ADS applications) compatible with the Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN) concept.
