Scope of Document

This document defines an open encoding format for airport databases which are loaded in airborne systems. This format, when designed and implemented, will enable a quick, economic, and efficient use of AMDB. However, since industry does not require applications to be standardized, data interpretation is not addressed in this document.

ARINC Specification 816 includes the following:

Metadata specifications

• Performance requirements

• Features and attributes derived from DO-272/ED-99

• Coding derived from DO-291/ED-119

• Aggregating features from DO-272/ED-99 capture rules

• Triangulation of geometric features

• Physical file format specification

• Identification number

• Features and attributes including coordinates

• Feature symbolic representation (e.g., anchor positioning)

• Coordinate projection algorithm specification

• Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) algorithm specification

• Binary encoding
