Purpose

This regulation establishes policies, procedures, and responsibilities. It also outlines the process that determines the degree of acceptability of materiel items for Army use. This process is called type classification (TC). The term "type classification" includes, when applicable, the process or act of type reclassification or terminating TC. TC is the Army's implementation of OSD's requirement for a determination that an item is "accepted for service use" prior to expending procurement funds.
