Purpose

The policies established in this regulation constitute a management system for the Joint Electronics Type Designation Automated System (JETDAS). JETDAS access is available by submitting a request to the respective service submitter review point (SRP), department control point (DCP), or the Department of Defense Control Point (DODCP) using the system access application. Login and usage of JETDAS is also. JETDAS will be used for all nomenclature (approved item name and type designator) requests of unclassified materiel. All information and processes in this regulation are submitted via the automated system (JETDAS). Classified materiel nomenclature requests must be submitted via DD Form 61 (Request for Nomenclature) in hard copy format due to classified information. The objectives of the management system are to ensure that the JETDAS: is properly administered and controlled; serves as a viable tool for identification of electronic materiel and for use in configuration management of this materiel; provides identification of electronic materiel type similarities and significant differences; and is sufficiently flexible and broad in scope to be applicable to present and future electronic materiel.
