a. Instructions contained in this manual are general, and are not specific in detail. Specific details required for a particular aircraft or definite piece of equipment will be obtained from the applicable technical manuals. Items recommended for use arc specified by military or federal specification numbers. Due to the generality of the text, allowances may be made for items not available or procedures which cannot be applied. When recommended items or procedures cannot be applied, an approved equivalent may be utilized. For interchange· ability of a specific item, refer to the applicable aircraft maintenance manual.

b. Report of errors, omissions, and recommendations for improving this publication by the individual user is encouraged. Reports should be submitted on DA Form 2028 (Recommended Changes to Publications and Blank Forms) and forwarded direct to: US Army Troop Support and Aviation Materiel Readiness Command, ATTN :DRSTS-MPSD, 4300 Good-fellow Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63120.

PURPOSE.

This manual sets forth, in general, the description, instructions for maintenance policies, practices, and procedures used by maintenance personnel for Department of the Army aircraft. These instructions arc to be used as a guide in familiarizing personnel with various maintenance measures to preserve, identify, or dispose of aircraft and their relat~d equipment. Thorough, repetitive inspections at regular intervals and effective repair actions will result in the highest percentage of equipment being in a ready-to-use status. A well established preventive maintenance schedule will prevent undue wear and deterioration to aircraft and equipment, and ensure a high standard of operation.
