It includes definitions and symbols, the form and dimensions of standard test pieces and their preparation. Procedures are outlined for the determination of tensile properties at room temperature; yield stress, proof stress and proving tests for permanent set stress at different rates of straining; and the calculation of tensile strength, percentage elongation and percentage reduction of area. Notes on straining-rate control in the determination of yield stress, proof stress and permanent set stress, and guidance for committees drafting product specifications are in appendices.
