Specifies requirements for factor-assembled metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear for indoor and outdoor installations. It covers, in conjunction with AS 2650, definitions, service conditions, rated characteristics, design and construction, tests, guide to selection, information to be given in tenders and orders, transport, storage, erection, maintenance and recommended quality control of procedures. Appendices include internal fault provisions, calculation of cross-sectional area of bare conductors for thermal stresses due to currents of short duration, a recommended waterproofing test for outdoor equipment and a guide for voltage tests after erection on site. Additional requirements from AS 2263 may apply for metal-enclosed switchgear, depending upon its design, where the insulation is gas at other than atmospheric pressure.
