Provides requirements for raw materials, and bases for the specification of a mix both by performance in which the supplier assumes responsibility for the mix design, and by prescription in which the purchaser assumes responsibility for the mix design. Requirements relating to manufacturing, storage, delivery, sampling, and physical and chemical properties are given. Appendices describe procedures for the determination of binder content and aggregate grading, stability and flow, maximum density, maximum theoretical density, bulk density and voids content of compacted asphalt, and moisture content, and also include a recommended form for the schedule of job requirements.
