Establishes the principles required for devising sampling schemes. Recommended and alternative sampling plans are described which will enable both supplier and purchaser to reliably assess the significance of test data obtained from examination of pieces selected. Also includes an explanation of the influence of sampling and testing costs and of the economic assessment of the relative risks assumed by both purchaser and supplier, compared with the costs involved, and contains samples illustrating the use of sampling plans. Tables for inspection by both variables and attributes together with a description of the use of the operating characteristics (OC) curve are in an appendix.
