Describes and illustrates recommended methods and safety measures to be observed for the lifting and moving of patients, including techniques for the manual lifting and moving of patients with different disabilities. Its aims are to reduce the incidence of back injuries, which may occur in health care institutions and other areas where manual lifting and moving of patients is undertaken. It does not purport to provide a complete preventative program and/or training manual, or to cover an entire field of patient transfers, but it may provide assistance in the development of good posture and correct techniques. It could also be used as basic principles in the drafting of institution manuals for lifting and moving of patients.
