This specification applies to rechargeable portable fire extinguishers of the halogenated hydrocarbon type. It provides for two types, viz: (i) The gas container type, in which the extinguishing medium is expelled by the pressure of gas released from a compressed gas container. (ii) The stored pressure type, in which the extinguishing medium is expelled by pressure of gas or air stored under pressure in the body of the extinguisher. The specification refers to materials, methods of manufacture and performance of the extinguisher and also of the compressed gas container.
