Describes methods for the manual ultrasonic examination of welds attaching nozzles and/or stubs to drums and vessels of carbon and low alloy steels. It applies to the attachment of nozzles or stubs having an internal diameter of not less than 1 inch (25 mm) and a thickness of not less than 1/4 inch (6.3 mm). Guidance on factors affecting manual examination techniques and on the determination of the size of imperfections is given in Appendix A.
