This specification applies to the various types of reduced current hand-operated and automattic apparatus for the starting and/or control of a.c. or d.c. electric motors for voltages up to 11 kV a.c. and up to 650 V d.c. It also applies to resistors and auto-transformers which are part of starters or controllers, and those which are intended for use with starters or controllers. The starters specified in This Standard are not designed to interrupt short-circuit currents, and suitable short-circuit protection should form part of the installation.
