This code provides minimum safety requirements and makes recommendations for the design, fabrication, installation, inspection, testing, operation and maintenance of gas transmission and distribution systems in which - (a) the pipes are manufactured from steel and qualify for use in terms of the relevant sections of this Code; (b) the temperature of the pipe transporting the gas does not exceed 230 degrees Celsius (446 degrees F) and is not less than -30 degrees Celsius (-22 degrees F) at any point in the pipeline. Gas transmission and distribution systems within the scope fot his Code comprise all the steel pipelines, mains and gas service pipes up to the consumer's meter inlet. This code also covers the conditions of use of elements of these piping systems, including but not limited to pipe, valves, fittings, flanges, bolting, gaskets, regulators, pressure vessels, pulsation dampers and pressure-relief devices.
