ASHRAE Technology Award: Distributing Savings PDF

A three-phase energy-reduction project at the IKEA distribution center in Brossard, QC, Canada resulted in savings of 80 percent and 31 percent of natural gas and electrical consumption, respectively. A highlight of the project was a chiller that uses maglev frictionless bearings that was converted into a heat pump for geothermal application. Controls were custom adapted for this new application.
