View Sample Alloy Digest Data Sheet (PDF)

Since 1952, Alloy Digest has been the leading reference for materials property data on metals and alloys used throughout the world. Featuring graphs, charts and tables, these sheets give facts and figures on composition or characterization, physical and mechanical properties, heat treatment, and machinability.

AISI 1080 is a plain carbon steel containing nominally 0.80% carbon; it has relatively low hardenability. It may be used in the as-rolled, annealed, normalized or liquid-quenched-and-tempered condition, depending on the required properties. Normally it is hardened by austenitizing and quenching in oil; however, it may be quenched in water if precautions are taken to prevent cracking. AISI 1080 is recommended for general-purpose tools, springs and machinery parts that require high hardness and high resistance to wear.
