AISI 1095 is a high-carbon, water-hardening tool and spring steel of low hardenability. Depending on the properties required, it may be used in the astrolled, annealed, normalized or liquid-quenched-and-tempered condition. It is hardened by austenitizing and quenching in water (preferably) but it may be quenched in oil if a less drastic quench meets requirements. Its many uses include springs, bushings, drills, hay-rake teeth, pins and ball bearings.
