ATI 302 (UNS S30200) is a variation of the 18Cr-8Ni austenitic alloy, the most familiar and most frequently used stainless steel. This alloy may be considered for a wide variety of applications where one or more of the following properties are important: resistance to corrosion, prevention of product contamination, ease of fabrication, attractive surface, ease of cleaning, or good strength and toughness at cryogenic temperatures. Past users of ATI 302 are generally now using ATI 304 because argon oxygen decarburization technology has made lower carbon levels more easily attainable and economical. ATI 302 may be preferred over ATI 304 for temper rolled products or in other instances where its higher carbon content enables it to meet certain yield strength and tensile strength requirements while maintaining a higher level of ductility (elongation) versus that of the lower carbon ATI 304.
