EASTERN STAINLESS Type 316 is a chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel. The molybdenum (2-3%) gives it the greatest resistance to pitting corrosion of any of the AISI standard grades of austenitic stainless steel. This extra measure of corrosion resistance makes this grade particularly suitable for uses involving severed corrosive conditions. In addition, Type 316 has high strength and high resistance to creep at elevated temperatures. Its many applications include the nuclear, chemical, food, paper and textile industries.
