AISI Type D3 is an oil-hardening cold-work tool and die steel containing high percentages of carbon and chromium. It has very good resistance to wear or abrasion and high compressive strength. It is a deep-hardening steel that hardens with very little change in size or shape. Type D3 is a general-purpose tool and die steel and, because of its high chromium content, it has fairly good corrosion-resisting characteristics.
