CARPENTER STAR MAX is a general-purpose, molybdenum-bearing, high-speed steel containing a low percentage of tungsten. It is produced by the ESR (Electroslag Refining) process to provide a cutting steel with as great a toughness as any other high-speed steel. Star Max can be used successfully for fine-edged tools and for tools that must be ground with sharp angles where danger of edge crumbling or chipping is pronounced. Typical applications comprise blanking dies, drills, milling cutters and punches.
