View Sample Alloy Digest Data Sheet (PDF) Since 1952, Alloy Digest has been the leading reference for materials property data on metals and alloys used throughout the world. Featuring graphs, charts and tables, these sheets give facts and figures on composition or characterization, physical and mechanical properties, heat treatment, and machinability.
DC is a single-vacuum melted AISI H13 type material made by the patented vacuum arc degassing (VAD) process. The vanadium content of 1% in addition to a high chromium (Cr 5%) and molybdenum (Mo 1.4%) promotes hot strength and wear resistance. Thermal fatigue resistance is less than that of the double-vacuum processed DC-Xtra material, but may be suitable for short run casting operations. The alloy is usually sold annealed, for hardening by vacuum furnace after machining to temper H (hardness 47-50 HRC). DC-Xtra is a premium H13 type material produced using a patented double-vacuum process, VAD plus vacuum arc remelting (VAR), that provides ultraclean and ultrarefined microstructures for superior thermal fatigue resistance. This is the standard grade and quality level used in the aluminum die casting industry. It is generally supplied precertified to North American Die Casting Association (NADCA) standards for cleanliness and microstructure, and in the annealed condition for hardening after machining.
