This document specifies guidelines for the assignment of line numbers within the 555 NXX code, hereafter referred to as '555 numbers' within these guidelines. The intended use for 555 numbers for which these guidelines apply include the provisioning of information services but may include a broad range of existing and future services as well. While these guidelines were developed by the telecommunications industry by consensus process at the Industry Numbering Committee (INC), they do not supersede controlling appropriate NANP area governmental or regulatory principles, procedures and requirements. These industry consensus guidelines are expected to apply throughout the NANP area subject to procedures and constraints of the NANP area administrations.
