These safe practice recommendations are intended to provide a base-line document for owners and users of electron beam (EB) welding and cutting equipment to follow and a minimum standard for protecting personnel and property from the potential hazards specifically associated with electron beam welding and cutting. These safe practice recommendations apply also, for the most part, to EB heat treating, EB curing, EB metal deposition, etc. No attempt has been made to include here all the potential hazards associated with welding and cutting processes in general, which are covered by ANSI-Z49.1 (latest edition),(Footnote 1) Safety in Welding and Cutting, nor all the OSHA regulations established to protect personnel working on (or around) various forms of industrial machinery and vacuum equipment. The general requirements outlined in both these applicable documents should be strictly adhered to at all times.
