This specification establishes the minimum requirements for an employer’s (company’s) internal written practice for the training, qualification, and that company’s certification of Thermoplastic Welding Inspector Specialists or Thermoplastic Welding Inspector Assistants. The employer is responsible for the testing, examination, and qualification of their inspectors. This specification is to aid employers in identifying the basic factors in qualifying personnel performing thermoplastic welding inspections for a specific client or project. Employers may choose to accept that individuals who qualified to the previous edition (AWS G1.6:2006) are not required to requalify to this current edition.

Examination and certification by the American Welding Society shall not be a requirement for the Thermoplastic Welding Inspector Assistant or Thermoplastic Welding Inspector Specialist.
