Protection of Persons and Property. This standard is for the protection of persons from injury and illness and the protection of property (including equipment) from damage by fire and explosions arising from welding, cutting, and allied processes

Applicability. Specific provisions are included for gas and arc welding and cutting, and resistance welding. However, the requirements of this standard are generally applicable to the other welding processes such as submerged arc welding, brazing, and other welding and allied processes shown in the American Welding Society Master Chart of Welding Processes, A3.1, and Master Chart of Allied Processes, A3.2. Tables listing welding and allied processes are included in the Appendix.

Equipment. Oxy-fuel gas and electric welding, cutting, and heating equipment shall be kept in working condition, inspected as necessary to be sure it can be kept in working condition, and when found to be defective (incapable of reliable safe operation) shall be promptly repaired by qualified personnel or withdrawn from service.
