The AWWA Research Foundation has sponsored the development of a guidance manual for maintenance and operation of water filtration plants. This activity has been carried out by the Black & Veach/Thames Water Utilities project team with the cooperation of forty water utilities in North America plus water treatment plants in the United Kingdom and Australia. The manual will be a comprehensive reference book containing practical information on operation of pretreatment and filtration processes and procedures for inspection and maintenance of water filtration plants. This paper summarizes the contents of the guidance manual. Includes 7 references, table, appendix.
