The following briefly discusses recent developments using Low Pressure High Intensity (LPHI) Ultraviolet (UV) lamps in drinking water. A special emphasis is made on the history of the development to understand the background of the technology. Operational as well as evaluation issues are addressed. It can be concluded that LPHI UV lamps are already well established in the drinking water application and provide some essential benefits in comparison to other lamp types.
