The CFD tool is used to simulate the flow mixing condition. The methodology to set up the
CFD model is outlined in this paper. At the design stage, steady flow condition is assumed. The
simulation is carried out for a number of different inlet/outlet arrangements to calculate
the flow pattern and the corresponding residence time distribution (RTD) curve. The
dynamic flow during the fill and discharge is simulated using the deforming mesh
technique. Water age of the exit water is obtained for both steady and unsteady flow
conditions. Two case studies are presented. Case study 1 is a common inlet/outlet
reservoir. Case study 2 is a separate inlet outlet reservoir with division walls and
arches. Includes 7 references, figures.
