In 1998, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD awarded Contract CS-1305 to Tetra Tech MPS (as lead oversight consultant) to
develop the basis of design for residuals treatment facilities at four of its five WTPs (excluding
Water Works Park WTP), and to assist the Department during the procurement and construction
phases of this contract.
The methodology for estimating the spent backwash and sedimentation sludge is presented in
this paper. In addition, the basis of design for the residuals treatment facilities at the Lake Huron
WTP and Southwest WTP are discussed.
