To comply with Ontario's new water regulations and meet future regulations and water demand, the
Town of Tecumseh near Windsor, Ontario, Canada, decided to upgrade their 7.2 USMGD (27.3 ML/D)
Tecumseh Water Treatment Plant (WTP) by implementing membrane filtration.
This paper discusses design issues in the conversion of a conventional filtration plant to a membrane
filtration plant that include: pre-treatment;
system flow requirements/staging;
plant retrofit;
design temperature;
cleaning regime;
recovery rate;
raw water maximum and instantaneous flows;
double pumping and power requirements;
chemical requirements; and,
residue management. Specific examples related to the Tecumseh WTP Upgrades project are presented. Includes 3 references, tables, figures.
