This slide presentation outlines the significance, treatment and management of cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins along with
ozonation of cyanobacterial toxins, specifically:
effects of ozone dose, pH, natural organic matter (NOM);
toxicity; and,
byproducts.
Conclusions were that:
ozonation was very effective to detoxify
naturally occurring microcystins in water;
reaction pH was an important factor for
microcystin degradation by ozonation;
the presence of NOM lower the removal
efficiency of microcystin; toxicity of microcystin solution increased at
insufficient ozone doses;
a number of ozonation byproducts were
identified;
degradation pathway was proposed; and,
destruction of Adda moiety coincided with
detoxification of microcystins. Includes figures.
