This slide presentation outlines a project for the beneficial reuse of water from the southern California I-105 Freeway in dewatering wells to protect groundwater basin supplies. Project goals/objectives included:
define the cost to treat and transfer I-105
dewatering well water to injection field;
sample and characterize active CALTRANS wells;
source water characterization;
establish required process treatment train; develop the budget cost estimates; and,
coordinate the results of the above with DHS. Treatment evaluation included:
developed blending strategies for the secondary
contaminants (~ MCLs);
evaluated three treatment trains to remove the
primary contaminants (>> MCLs); and,
evaluated each train in terms of
cost,
footprint, and
performance. Composite water quality models and scenarios are given along with figures for Train 1, Oxidation Filtration with
GAC as Filter Media, and Train 3, Air Stripping plus Oxidation
Filtration plus Liquid Phase granular activated carbon (GAC).
