This slide presentation outlines a pilot program to demonstrate the use of
best management practices for the mitigation of
sediment and loading to Lake Lewisville from the
Hickory Creek Watershed. A second objective was to
create economic incentives for the development
of water quality credit trading to control of point
and nonpoint source pollution through the use of
municipal development code. Lake Lewisville is currently
threatened by sediment and
nutrients, it is
#96 out of 102 Texas reservoirs
for eutrophication, there are a
high rate of applications for
new or amended discharge
permits,
rapid land use conversion,
storage capacity reduced by
sediment loads,
major water supply reservoir, and
significant recreation resource. Topics outlined include: water quality credit trading; SWAT model calibrated
for Lake Lewisville land uses; application of the
watershed framework; pro forma evaluation
of sediment control costs; model development - urban loads, sediment calibration, nitrogen; change in land use from
natural conditions; increased loads
due to development; application to city code; and, application to water supply planning.
