This slide presentation outlines trends in hydraulic modeling, explains trend impacts, and presents case studies that show the value of model calibration. The first trend presented is Using Output from Models For Other Tasks, examples include: optimizing pipe sizes for design studies; deciding where to locate on-line monitors; and, modeling water quality. The second trend is Today's Models are Bigger and the reasons include: greater computer resources; no need to skeletonize; capable software; geographic information systems (GIS) and customer information systems (CIS) data; and, IDSE requirements. Reasons for calibration of models include: to represent real world conditions (model duplicates supervisory control and data acquisition [SCADA]); to establish confidence in the model's predictions; and, to make decisions based on accurate information. Calibration of models is outlined and several case studies are presented. Includes table, figures.
