This powerpoint presentation outlines an effort by the Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) to develop a drainage and wastewater collection worker apprenticeship program. SPU was having a problem with recruitment and retention of employees, and with inconsistent work practices leading to spotty quality of service. The solution was to develop an apprenticeship program that consisted of on-the-job training and required
supplemental instruction, evaluation and testing. Components of the hiring, training, evaluation and testing processes are provided along with the primary and secondary benefits.
