This powerpoint presentation outlines a national atrazine occurrence survey conducted in 2003 and 2004 to gain a better understanding of atrazine short-term occurrence and variability.
Key findings from the project include: many drinking water treatment plants had already
installed treatment (e.g., granular activated carbon [GAC] or powdered activated carbon [PAC]) specifically for
atrazine control and management, which implies that
utilities are bearing the burden of cost for
atrazine removal; and, the
project was unable to evaluate the cost of atrazine
management/treatment on drinking water treatment
plants. The presentation also presents a national Agricultural Contamination Cost
Survey to
determine the costs
utilities were paying
for agricultural
contamination from:
Atrazine;
Acetochlor;
Nitrate;
Nutrients.
Primary survey components included:
Demographics: system type, population served,
etc.; and,
agricultural contamination. Survey results presented include: demographics; agricultural contamination; treatment; and, cost summary.
