The objective of this powerpoint presentation was to examine the impact of membrane
pretreatment strategies on membrane
performance evaluated in terms of total organic carbon (TOC) removal
and membrane fouling. Two strategies are explored, including:
dual coagulation with an inorganic salt and
a prehydrolized coagulant; and,
intermittent coagulation. The experimental set-up included:
ZW1000 jr modules (1 m<sup>2</sup>);
outside-in configuration;
pore size ~ 0.04 & #181;m; and,
Hamilton Bay water
(Ontario, Canada). Topics outlined under the first strategy of dual coagulation include: TOC removal alum/PACl (summer); TOC removal alum/PACl (winter); fouling rate alum/PACl (winter); TOC removal ferric/PACl (summer); fouling rate ferric/PACl (Summer); TOC removal ferric/PACl (winter); and, fouling rate ferric/PACl (Winter). Topics outlined under the second strategy of intermittent
coagulation include: TOC removal; and, fouling rate. Includes table, figures.
